Show 0 THE RANGELY OIL FIELD COLORADO recent revival of active work in prospecting pec ting tor for oil in the rangely langely district raven park colorado makes a forthcoming report on the geology of the district very opportune the field was visited during the summer of 1907 by a party from the united states geological survey in charge of mr hoyt S gale geologist engaged primarily in a study of the coal fields of the region but the structure and of the oil field were also worked out in considerable detail A topographic map of raven park and adjacent territory was made which has been prepared for publication on the scale of one mile to one inch and will be printed with the report this map shows roads drainage location of wells already drilled and topography the relief being indicated by contours representing vertical intervals of feet the report will include a map showing the distribution of geological formations emotions mat ions by means of colored patterns and a sheet of cross sections of the rangely langely field indicating the positions and relations of the oil bearing horizons the occurrence of the oil will be discussed cus in the text of the report and some conclusions as to the nature of the oil pools will be stated no attempt will be made to indicate exactly the sites for the location of new successful wells as this is beyond the scope of such a paper the primary purpose of the work is to present the results of a study of the general geology of the district in which the oil has been found with a view to determining if possible the relations of structure and to the occurrence of the oil as a possible aid to the development of the field the report will also include a chapter on the water supply of the district with an analysis of white river water and a discussion of its effects when used for domestic purposes the report will appear as bulletin of the surveys series and will probably be ready for distribution during the summer of 1908 |
