conjecture as to why from the foot of the mountain there should flow springs of almost boiling water so impregnated with different minerals as to possess medicinal qualities which are much sought for by those afflic afflicted teI with the ills and in firmi ties to which all flesh is heir the hot springs are most admirably located from a scenic point of view and in the spring and summer time present many attractions which appeal to the invalid and those seeking recreation or complete rest to the east the sierra madre mount mountains dins raise their mighty crests and in whose breasts there are untold fortunes in the precious and baser metals while to the west is the great salt lake whose beauty is enhanced by the ane numerous islands dotting its broad expanse it is a at i t this ending of a mountain spur where volcanic or other physical action has given vent to the hot waters so heavily impregnated aled with various minerals that the utah hot springs spring sanitarium is is a huge affair and modern throughout the hotel contains eighty bed rooms single or en suite there are two parlors large foyer a roomy and pleasant dining room and private dining rooms in the sanitarium proper there are three large swimming pools one of which Is outdoors for summer use the other two being I 1 enclosed in addition to which there are eight private plunges ph inges for regular guests there are two sanitarium baths and sweat rooms one for gentlemen and the other for ladies t the former being t presided over by dr G W ens physician in charge of the entire bathing departments and the latter by miss dora bora reed voi each patient there is a system of hospital cards by means of which a complete record is kept of all cases the waters of the hot springs are beneficial in izi many cases where the sufferer has failed to find relief at the hand of physician or surgeon 0 they are helpful to patients having diseases of the vital functions rheumatism so hard to combat gives way under the influence of the bath the massage and the sweat room stomach ana bowel troubles liver and kidney complaints heart trouble nervous diseases certain kinds of skin diseases find and eczema are in the cata gory of afflictions which are benefited and cured by these healing waters and the list might be gone into almost indefinitely without exhausting the catalogue of complaints for which this sanitarium is noted for its cures the water as it comes from the springs has a temperature of from 30 to 44 degrees fahrenheit in the baths the temperature ranges from to happy family the sanitarium is frequented by the very best of people and here we find the suffering capitalists the merchant the successful mining man their wives and their families in the evening musical entertainments are given and the period of enforced inactivity is not enforced boredom as some might imagine but a time of repose and enjoyment |
