Show GOLD CIRCLE TOWNSITE the gold circle townsite is owned by the gold circle townsite company the name of this thrifty and rapidly growing town is midas and this is the official title of the postoffice post office as well the town occupies a tract of land abutting r onto the mouth of summit canyon on which forty five blocks have been platted while a similar area has recently been surveyed for an equal number of blocks at this writing between and lots have been sold by the townsite company and of these many are constantly changing hands at rapidly advancing figures the water supply at present comes from springs and wells the former being located in the canyon the latter being put down by private enterprise in sinking aise these wells water Is generally found at a depth of from thirty to forty feet and it is exceptionally soft of t and pure A mile and a quarter up the canyon from midas there is a large spring whose waters will soon be piped into midas the supply is adequate for all necessary purposes with a surplus for mining wants and as the fall is great electric power can easily be generated for lighting and motive power purposes midas has a daily mail service between battle mountain and golconda daily stages also connect the town with the outside world and numerous auto lines are making quick transit for the mining operator and investor the townsite company is engaged in grading streets and in making other improvements and the town is rapidly assuming metropolitan airs from a town of tents midas is rapidly changing into a camp of substantial buildings and many really fine edifices for business occupancy are going up as rapidly as lumber can be brought in from the outside P A leamy agent and general manager for the townsite company has been the busiest man in camp during the past month or six weeks and even with an able staff of assistants it has been almost impossible for him to take care of the throng of lot purchasers who have dogged his footsteps town lots originally sold for 75 to on main street but now these are rapidly changing hands at from 1500 to 2000 or outside lots bring from to e A month ago midas was lacking in human comforts it was difficult to get a meal or a bed now there are several good restaurants in the town and lodging tents galore it has been the policy of the business men of the growing camp to eliminate the holdup hold up game in the treatment of transients and excellent meals have so far been furnished at 50 cents while comfortable beds could be obtained at a dollar already midas has its full quota of business houses and necessary supplies can be ob bained at reasonable prices assayers and surveyors and engineers are well represented and real estate dealers have their signs conspicuously displayed before the writer took his departure it was stated that midas was soon to have a hotel while two banks were in projection one to be established by the sewell bros linnell of tuscarora while the other will be known as the corey bros bank of saloons there are a number and these will soon be installed in frame buildings of their own wood is a scarce commodity and sagebrush is generally used for fuel J C charters proprietor of the gold circle restaurant being about the only man to bring in coal from the railroad midas has three barber shops a feed yard conducted by J D lawrence and offers opportunities for a fruit and stationery stand the town has a good newspaper the gold circle miner edited by mark W musgrove the irrepressible whose extensive vocabulary would make a webster turn green with envy at the time of the visit of the writer to gold circle there was an opening there for h a physician and lawyer and there were other wants which have probably been filled by this time at the rate at which midas is growing at the present time it should be a town of from to population within a year and as gold circle district is large in its area and constantly extending and its mines have all the earmarks of coming bonanzas all should be kept busy and and in a prosperous condition |
