by George Broad Broadhurst Broadhurst Broadhurst hurst It gives American citizens their first firt real opportunity to see how the tho po political wheels go around The Tue Man of the Hour is said to have been written about New York politics There is in it ita Ita ita a of the present mayor of the metropolis a hint at the story of his life le leBut But it might have been written about any large city for in every large city there is a boss who dominates until he lw heis lwis is Ii overthrown From Fron From the first act the action Is so swift swit the dramatic situations acton follow one another so closely cosely that one Is tempted to hurl hur the adjective melodramatic melodramatic matic at It But every drama that is worth while contains some of ot the ele elc elements elements ments meats of melodrama melodrama for life is full ful of that very thing To say that The he Man Manof Manof Manof of the Hour is worth seeing Is to put the case too mildly It I is worth seeing more had been taught to honor all al his life love of the theIrl girl Irl for whom he hc would have given his life rather than sacrifice his high Ideals The tragedy of It all al is that there are so few mayors like Alwyn Bennett Bennet so many man bosses boses like Richard and so many capitalists like Charles Wainwright W Still few people comparatively are willing to I admit that The Man of ot the Hour pre presents seats sent a faithful picture picure of our municipal municipal pal conditions To say that It i does is isto isto isto to say that the system reeks with graft with wih dishonor with
