that are now under way for the assembling of a magnificent display of products shall have been car carried carried ried nod out ou t tA A Corner in Fairyland This room will dill look like a corner in Fairyland whet all of the work al already already ready roody outlined and commenced is completed com completed When the tho proposition was first broached to unite the exhibits of the Agricultural Manufacturing society the Salt Lake Real Estate as association and the Manufacturers I Merchants association it was realized that tat t a great showing would be made ut the real magnitude of the proposition propositIon proposition tion did not develop In an instant When the permanent quarters of the three organizations were taken falten It was soon peon eon that there was ample room for all aU of the exhibits that ha had haQ l already been assembled with space to spare When this fact became kuon and when the plans of tho the men in charge of the work of consolidation became more definite other organizations applied for admission admission sion to the exhibit with permission n to add to the strength of the showing of or Utah goods by their own contributions Undertake Big Task Thus the idea grew and President J T JG Jh TG G h McDonald jr and Secretary Horace HoraceS S Ensign of the Deseret Agricultural Manufacturing society in whose hands the arrangement of exhibits had been placed by the united associations found that they the had a greater task laid out for them than they had at first supposed The great t mass of material to be placed the many kinds of products to tobe tobe tobe be used the tle wide range of problems to tobe tobe be bc solved took them by surprise Ex Experienced as they were with the han handling handling handling and arrangement of exhibits by reason r ason of their long connection with the Utah state fair they realized that it would be no easy task to harmonize the thc many exhibits that would be placed Jn in the building by the I f manufacturers manufacturer and producers of the thesta state sta tc l At this juncture white they the were still seeking for a proper method and com comprehensive comprehensive of pl from local artists began to come in tendering their services J Harry Hamlin an artist and designer with a reputation for having originated r h n oy any clever color schemes volunteered 10 f n draw raw a ground plan of or the Building with a study stud of the light licht effects s and an a na offer suggestions as to the proper pro r plc pla plaInS ing InS of the exhibits with a view of oC utilizing util utilizing utilizing izing every overy ray of light to the best advantage This offer was accepted c cand and the plans were drawn But Hamlin went further than this He offered a number of suggestions which will be carried into effect under his able direction The Augusta Bridge The rho attention of the country has been directed 1 during the th last few months to the wonderful natural l bridges which were recently discovered in San Juan county count Mr lIr Hamlin suggested that as the central figure in the great display a replica of the Augusta bridge be built across the entire exhibition room This bridge will be placed at the th front of the room just behind the office spaces of the tho various arlous organizations in the build building building building ing It will win be built up p with ores and minerals taken from froth the mines of the tithe state and the thc color blending and shad ing which will viii be worked into the de design sign wUl give a beautiful and surprising surprising surprisIng ing effect This bridge will be fully thirty feet long and nearly as much in height To ro rodd add dd to the tho beauty of this bridge in niches in the rock trailing plants will willbe willbe be placed and these drooping and fes festooning festooning festooning on the face of the minerals will offer a vivid and artistic contrast Screen of Foliage At the back of the bridge and shut shutting shutting shutting ting off a view of the rear of the room will be a trellis work worle extending to a height of ot ten or fifteen feet This trellis trems will be concaved at the middle of 5 the span beneath the bridge and will vii be covered with festoons of ivy clematis Virginia creeper and other climbing plants giving a rich background for forthe forthe forthe the central attraction Directly beneath the giant span of the bridge a fountain will play and in inthe inthe inthe the basin of this fountain will be seen many man of the game fish fisl that are to be found In the waters of the streams and lakes of the state It has been suggested that this foun fountain fountain fountain tain basin be constructed of heavy glass In order that the fish may be seen to good advantage from the sides Di color to the i picture Novel Individual Individual Exhibits Ex Another unusual unusual feature in the room will be the salt satt grotto which will be constructed in a short time This grot grotto grotto grotto to which Is another of Mr lIr Hamlins designs will be lined with salt crystals cr of purest Durest white and hundreds of mi ml minute minute nute flute Incandescent lamps will sparkle like diamonds dl monds In the salt s lt The salt crystals will reflect the rays from these lamps throwing off from their faces all the the with prismatic effect The grotto will bedazzling be dazzling to the eyes so brilliant will be the light lighting lighting lighting ing effects This will vill be constructed construct d dby by the Inland Crystal Salt company Another feature which will interest int rest and instruct visitors to the exhibition will be a reproduction of the interior of a coal pit This will show the t e method meth method method od of timbering and lighting the mines miDe minesa a mining car will be on the tracks and the face of a drift will be shown The Utah Fule company will place this ex exhibit exhibit exhibit hibit The plans of the Utah Sugar company have not been announced as to the form its exhibition will take but this show showing sho showing ing will surpass and eclipse any other the company has made at any of the worlds fairs at which they have won awards for artistic displays The sulphur companies of the state will show that product in the form either of a large pyramid 1 or a mono monolith monolith lith towering almost to the ceiling of the room Bas relief mural decorations casts and brackets column and capitals in white plaster pla ter l will be exhibited by the Nephi Plaster company The showing will be extensive and will illustrate the variety of decorative uses to which this material can be put Designs for this exhibit are now be being beIng being ing drawn by the company the artists of which are working in conjunction with those who are superintending the general work worl The c companies are to have something entirely new v They Th y are not ready to make male their plans known but President J G McDonald of the Mc Me Donald Candy In addition to these dozens of other manufacturers and producers will wUl show their products but their plans have not yet taken definite shape The artistic element of the show will predominate and will overshadow all other features There will not be an exhibit received that will not mean something Not a n shoddy entry will willbe willbe be received under any circumstances as it is the purpose method of displaying he Utah grains STains and grass seeds There are nine columns running from front to back supporting the ceil ceiling ceiling ceiling ing These columns will wm be surrounded l by glass cylinders in which will be placed the grains and grass seeds grown In the state one pillar will show wheat in its various varieties another oafs and another read and white corn still another will be for popcorn Rye and barley barly will be shown at ot separate Navy and limn lima beans and peas will win be shown in this manner and one pillar will be reserved for clover lu cerns timothy and other grass seeds of production Designs are being prepared for a wall display of grains in the shelf sheaf she f to show the results of arid farming and of ir irrigation irrigation irrigation The Utah art institute will wilt lend to the exhibit it is understood a large number of pictures painted by Utah artists for exhibition purposes Relics Are Offered The Daughters of Pioneers will place in the exhibit room as a many of the his historical historical historical relics possessed by them as the exhibit committee desires Among the articles of historical interest that will willbe willbe be shown will be handcarts which were pushed across the plains loaded with the household effects of the members of the famous handcart companies spinning wheels with which wool and flax were spun into thread for the man manufacture manufacture manufacture of clothing the primitive cooking utensils used by the old set settlers settlers settlers agricultural implements and oth other other other er necessities that were used in the years before the advent of the railroad Arrangements are also being to show many of the styles of clothing worn by the pioneers among these a waistcoat which was once a cherished possession of Brigham Young Articles of jewelry in the large and heavy de designs designs designs signs worn in those days will also be exhibited As far as possible all aU exhibits will willbe willbe willbe be placed d under glass that they may not be damaged by handling or by ex exposure exposure exposure to the dust No effort will be spared to keep them at all aU times in presentable condition The Th State Board of Horticulture pur purposes purposes purposes poses to install its entire exhibit of preserved fruits which was shown at atthe atthe atthe the fourteenth annual meeting of the National Irrigation congress at Boise a short time ago In addition to this all fruits grown in the state will be shown fresh in season This exhibit will be renewed and md and J B Ferguson decorator These men have hae their ser j vices and are working many hours each week without compensation to make malte the exhibit as attractive as time and labor brains and ingenuity
