Show Fence of No Fence for Tooele. ! Batehvillb, Too elk Co , t October 2IhI, 1S70. I Uihti.rt JJcrnlJ: . .. I We, the grangers of Tooele valley, , had, a (tivv days ago, aomething of (in excitement. It wns rumored that our county court, acting upon a petition of several inhabitant:, had decided, or was going to decide, that at the elections of November next the tax-payers of this blessed valley would be callsd upon to decide by ballot whether the tillers of the Boil would be obliged to put around their crops, that myth called a lawful law-ful fence, or not. We were not there, but suppose the court considered: Fiist Tho grain does not run fur tho cattle, but the cattle for the grain. Second That it is most unjust to force on tho farmer the expense of herding somebody else's animals. Third Tli at the range is u school uf demoraliz.it ion for Hie youth. Fourth That th ranj;e iu this valley does not nrlbrd food enough to suHtmn life in a decent animal. Filth llmt tuero aro thousands of 1 acres of fertile land in tho valley of r Tooele that would yield handsomely if nut iinilpr culti valinn ' Sixth That there are Bcorjs of young people and others that would ; take up and farm said acros of fertile land if it were not that they cannot ntlord the expense of a feuce, lawful or otherwise. Seventh That past experience shows that to keep a lawful fence in a farming community is a detriment to the grain growers, a benefit only to dishonest people, a source of quarrels, quar-rels, takes away from the farmer the beet part ot his crop in damages and yearly repairs, and retards if it does not hinder completely the development develop-ment of the community. Eighth That a no-fenoe law in Tooele valley would result in a fewi years in the total cultivation of said vttlley, and increase ten times as much the yield of grain. After looking over the statute, the court (here we cease to suppose) made no decision. Our object is not to cast unjust criticism upon our eounty court. We believe its mem-b.-rs to be gentlemen and to desire the welfare of the people as strongly as anyone else, and we call upon I every jnan who has at heart the wel-j wel-j fare of the people, the development 1 of the agricultural interest in this , valley of Tooele, upon every man who believes thai the farmer has equal rights with the caule driver to take his pen, to raise his voice, to use his influence aud his vote for the abolition of this iniquitous and monstrous mon-strous abomination called Uwful lenco. , Respectfully, Petek A.
