Show Locating; Mining Claims- The commissioner of tho general land office, in reply to an inquiry, has made the following very important import-ant ruling to prospectors : 1 "In the case presented, where the party discovered a mine on the 1st of July, sunk a discovery Bhaft ten feet iu depth, aud made record of his claim on the 2Sth of August, 1876, the first annual expenditure should be made prior to July 1, 1877." I 'The abovo decision is important. . and the following requirements and ( conditions result therefrom : First The date of the beginning and origin of the title to a new lode or claim will be the exact day upon which it shall he first discovered by the uncovcrine and disclosing of the same. Second TharecordedJlocation no-lice no-lice (or certificate) should in all cases state the date on which the discovery wan made. Third Tho time in which anouai expenditures muBt be madewill begin and end yearly on the date the discovery dis-covery was made. Fourth The work of sinking the discovery shaft ten feet deep, or such portion of said work as shall be performed per-formed after the date of thediscovery, may be counted as part or a whole (as tho case may bejoi the first annual expenditure. Filth Claims located prior to Jan i uary 1, 1872, are not affected by this ruliug. The law of congresa requiring requir-ing annual expenditures not having gone into effect until that date, claim located prior thereto aro given a full year to do thoir assessment work; that is to say, these old titles may be represented at any time in the year between the 1st day of January and the last day of the succeeding December. |
