Inter- Ocean' s Washington: Wash-ington: A letter has just been received re-ceived by Representative Scbliecher from a prominent citizen of Corpus Christi, Texas, which contains the following reliable statement regarding the recent terrible and outrageous murderB committed in Webb, Duval and surrounding connties by Mexicans in the garb of Indians: "I have lived in the counties of Sun Patricio, Li7e Oak and Muces for thirty years and have been through all tbe troubles o( tbe frontier; I have never seen' such wholesale slaughter. They took little boys, from 7 to 12 years old, and two men on horseback would hold them up by their bauds while the third would take out their entrails. Tbe men they would shoot and take out ibeir entrails. This was seen by men and women who were hid in the brush, and we found the bodies as it wns told to us and in the manner slated. Tbo killed amounted to about twenty Ave men, and fifteen cbildren from 7 to 14 yeare old. This raid was made to get horses for the Mexican army 1 and lam to.d by good authority that, all tbe raiders receive is the money they can get with other valuables, and $1.50 a bead for all horses they bring safe over the Rio Grande. I think they must have crossed over tbe Rio Grande with about 500 or 600 head of saddle horsea. There were about forty five raiders altogether about twenty-six in the party that did the killing, about ten io tbe one that wae be tow San Diego, acd eight or ten in the one that crossed above Eagle pass. When I say 500 or 600 head of horaeB I mean tbe number tharwas taken by the party that did the killing. The party that crossed the Rio Grande below Rio Grande city bad about 150 head of horses. I do Dot iaow how many horeta tbey crossed above Eagle pass." |
