Show Catholicism. Cincinnati, 17. The German Roman Ro-man Catholic benevolent association held its first business meeting to day. The buaiuesa mm awe ted was limited 1 and unimportant. Bishop Tacbbo, of Covington, addressed the morning session. He spoke of tounding of tho union upon a good and firm basis, which was the etiurch. Speaking of the proposed new constitution he put in a plea for various sections in which the priesthood figures. Rev. Sch-ivunnah Sch-ivunnah of Cincinnati, in speaking ot the proposed constitution, said in ADril last a constitution was drawn and sent to various local societies,-sixty-five of which reported favorable; twenty-cicht suggested amendments which had since been incorporated in the paper now submitted. The most prominent points in the new constitution are as follows: Each society so-ciety is to be governed by a priest except where the members are from ditierent parishes, it will be under the guidance of such person as the bishop of the diocese names. Persons Per-sons propesed as members shall be submitted to tho priest for approval. If a member fails to observe lent, or fails to send his children to a Catholic Catho-lic school when he can, or becomes a drunkard, he will be rejected by the society. It ia expected that various sections will meet with stubborn opposition op-position when voted on. |
