Show Honors to the Dead. A meeting of tbe committee on preparation for the luneral obsequieB of Elder Joseph Standing, waa held last evening, according to announcement. announce-ment. President Angus M. Cannon called tbe meeting to order and occupied oc-cupied the chair. The object of the meeting being to arrange preliminaries prelimina-ries for the occasion, fix tbe order ol the procession, etc., suggestions were called for, and the committee on procession, Andrew Burt, John R. Winder and Theodore McKean, reported re-ported the result of their deliberations. delibera-tions. President Cannon then made a few remarkB regarding thejnuture of Ibe occasion about to be commemorated and the propriety to be observed in forming the funeral procession. It was a matter in which the whole church was interested and in which the general gen-eral authorities and offices in the priesthood should be all represented. The funeral Bbould be conducted under the auspices of the church, not that of any Bingle local organization, because Elder Standing waa representing repre-senting the church when he fell a victim to tbe general cause, and it was tho church that should pa? him tbe last ofiiceB of respect. This was the reason that, after toe Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association had been directed by tbe apostles to make arrangements for tho funeral, on more mature reflection it wbb decided to make the occasion one in which the whole church would be represented, and the committees therefore, had since consolidated. After further remarkB on this and otbor mailers, the committee on muBic were instructed to invite the Martial band and other bands to take part in the procession. The order of the procesaion waa then determiued, and is aa follows: Martial Band. Glee Club. Tall Bearers. Hearse. Family of Deceased. Twelve ApostleB. First Presidency of Seventies. High PrieBta. Seventies. Elders. PrieBlB. TeacherB. Deacons, Societies. Citizens. The places to be oocupied by the other bands of music, will be assigned after arrangements are more fully perfected. The various committees were further instructed regarding their respective duties and the meeting then adjourned. As previously announced, tho funeral services will be held in the big tabernacle at 10 o'clock on Sunday Sun-day morning. Tbe tabernacle choir will Bing some beautiful and appropriate appro-priate selections. |
