Show City Conncil. Meeting of the city council, Tuesday evening, May 14th, 1878, Mayor Littie p e-iiilint;: A pitniuu frum the members of the Tenth Ward brass band, asking that the city asiist tLem with means to procure a uniform, and setting forth reasooj for the same, was received and referred to the committee on ways and means. A petition from Mr. Puree and others, taxpayers on Main gtreet, asking that the water pipes be con Jtinued down the street to the eouth-east eouth-east corner block of the 7th ward, and agreeing to pay taxes aa aoon as the pipes shall be laid, was referred to the committee on water works. A petition was received from Mr. McDuQ, asking the privilege priv-ilege of running a lime depnt near the Warm springs, and agreeing to keep it a sufficient distance from the road toavuid all disagreeable dis-agreeable features. Referred to the committee on oublic grounds. A petition was received from Wm. Hyde, asking the privilege of laying a water pipe from the l'J:h ward d:tcb to (urry water to his residence on the 17tu ward bench for household purposes. pur-poses. Granted. A motion waa carried to tbe effect that Mr. Harnson'B water privilege to take water from the 19th ward ditch he vacated. The report of the committee to whom was referred the gas bill for $1,148, and that of Jesse W. Fox for $102.25, was received and the amounts appropriated. A. bill from Salt Lake county for work on the Fifth ward canal, of which the city waa to bear half the expense, and which half amounts to $210.SG, was allowed. A resolution inviting the late United States Minister to France, E. B. Wastburn, to visit Salt Lake city and tendering to him the hospitality there of during hia stay, was adopted aud the following committee wasappoioled to receive him. Mayor Little, W. H. Hooper, John T. Caine, Alderman Pyper, Wm. JenmngB, .Henry JJin-woody JJin-woody and Horace S. Eldredge. A committee of three, consisting of John R. Winder, Alderman Raleigh and Councelor Reynolds was a so appointed to make all necessary arrangements for the reception of the gentleman.
