Show Base Ball. The game of yetterdny afternoon, as oue ol the gamine baa it, "wasn't no game at all." Eighteen base bailers had a little time, all to themeeievs, and "pUyed." It was some sort of a Deseret - Cbicago - Chicago - Deseret game, some of the home club playing with the IlHnoiaans and vice cersa. Both sides appeared to be amusing themaelvea more than the audience that had paid the admission fee. At the termination of the fifth inning tbe game was stopped, temporarily, and trials of speed and ball throwing were indulged in for a short time. Mr. Gore undertook to run the bases, a distance of 120 yards, in fourteen aeconds, bat failed by a quarter of a Becond. Two others made tbe circuit, one in 15 seconds and the other in 16. The ball throwing throw-ing occupied a few minutes, during which a number of throws were made, the furthest beicg nearly 122 yards. Then the game was resumed and the other four innings were played. Tbe result was, H for the Cbicagoana and 9 for tbe Deaerels; but it puzzled a good many to tell which was which, so mixed op were they. The losers were besten at their own game, and the winners had nothing to brag of. Taking it as a whole, it was merely an I exhibition. |
