Ferry, United States senator from Connecticut, whose death is announced in to-day's Keiiald, was born at Bethel, Connecticut, August 15th, 1S'2:J; was a graduate of Yale college, and a lawyer by profession; profes-sion; was a member of the state legislature legis-lature in 1855 and 1850; was a member mem-ber of the 30th congress; a colonel and brigadier general of volunteers in the Union army; was elected to the senate of the United States as a republican re-publican and took his seat in that body in 18G7. The death of Senator Ferry will de- : volve upon Governor Iugersoll, democrat, demo-crat, tbe appointment of his successor succes-sor until the meeting of the next legislature, which will bo elected on the first Monday in April next, and Connecticut will therefore be represented repre-sented by two democrats hi the Ben-ate, Ben-ate, at least during the approaching session, Hon. Win. W. Eaton having taken his seat at the last session of congress.
