Show An AjiioriCHQ-Cienuiin . Washington, 23. The attorney general has decided a question of nationality na-tionality and naturalization submitted submit-ted by the department of stale. The facts are that Mr. A. Steinkoauler, a Prussian subject by birth, immigrated to the United States iu 184S, and was naturalized in 18-5-i. Wheu he returned re-turned to Germany he took his son, then four years old, born in the United Un-ited States. Tho son is now twenty years old. The question at issue rose as to tha son owing military service to Germany. The attorney, general comes to the conclusion that the boy has two nationalities, one natural and the other acquired. The father returning re-turning to Germany and resuming his allegience, the son partakes of the status of his father, being a mtuor.and having enjoyed the protectionJIof the German government for the time being, be-ing, or till of age owes military duly to that country, obligation being reciprocal; re-ciprocal; but when the boy becomes o! age he can return to the United States as a citizen, with all his rights and privileges as such, and would be eligible even to the presidency of the United States. |
