DISGRACEFUL AFFAIR. it'rom the fit. Tan! PJoncor, April ia Oa Thureduy last it ia aupposod tbut ilisfl Edith O' Gorman, "The Jiacaped Kun," arrived at tho Sfcollet. An individual in-dividual having tho appearance of a gentleman, registered his own and hor mimo as follows: "JProf. AufTray and wife, Joreey City," It was presumed , that tho male nun was Alias Edith's bus- i band, and No. -I'J was asrigned to them. I Thoy remained at the Nicollet until1 last evening. Tho clerk at the Nicollot ib our authority for the statement that excopt upon ono occasion, when eho wont out to ride for a short timo, she loft her room only wheu sho visited tho Acadamy of Alusic to lecture. The male miD, i. c, "Air." Edith O'Uorman, kept tho door of her room locltod and tho koy in his pocket, whenever ho had occasion to step out. iio did not allow her to visit the dining room, oven, but carried her mouls to hor. Tho guests rooming in that portion of tho bouso woro surprised at about noon yesterday to hoar a disturbance in No. 49. Tiio door was locked, so that tho room could not bo entered but tho maio nun was evidently amusing himself in beating and dragging the "Escaped Nun," about the room, sho shrieking and pleading for mercy. At dinner time ho told the steward that the lady occupant of No. 40 would roquiro no dinner aud sho had none. Ho afterwards spoke of going for a doctor for the lady, but, instead, about 4:30 p.m., concluded to "go for tho lady," and the beating and dragging and shrioking and imploring woro repeated. Tho sympathies of tho guests wero with the "Escaped Nun." Bhe was billed to lecture at St. Paul last evening, and preparatory to starting for the 6 p.m. train tho male nun paid his bill, and said ho would leave most of his baggage, as thoy would return today. to-day. Tho male nun was directed by tho clerk to pick up his bag and haggago and loavo that neither hispresouce nor his money woro wanted in future. The nialo nun left, accompanied by tho "escaped nun." Tho train fur tit. Paul was about two hours lato, and tho male and "escaped nun" repaired to tho licllovue Houso to await its arrival. At about 6:30 thoy returned to tho depot. Tho "escaped nun" was barely ablo to keep on hor feet whilo "Air." Edith O'Ororman dragged her down the sidewalk side-walk and through tho mud to tho depot, The "escaped nun's" limbs refused to do duty. Kho staggered and would havo fallen in tho gutter, repeatedly, but for tho support of tho strong right arm that had so shamefully beaten her a few hours before. If sho hadn't been an "escaped "es-caped nun," peoplo would have said tiho was intoxicated otherwise, drunk but "escaped nuns" wouldn't gotdrunk, especially es-pecially when engaged in delivering high moral lectures. Tho wholo all'air was disgraceful. There are tlioeo uncharitable enough to say that Edith should "escape" twice more, viz: from tho brute whoimiltreats ber, and from her appetite. P. S It is taid the male nun states that MissEdith is nervous and excitable, and ho liuds it necessary to adniiniater laudanum and castigation in equal doses. Iio perhaps gave her an overdoso ol' both yesterday, and that may account for her condition last evening. j2. B.W. Allen & Co., -1 7 Broadway, Now "Vorli. BRANCH HOUSE, I Undor Poot Ofneo. S. I.
