Show LETTER FROM ST. GEORGE. St. George, 5th Noy., 1872. Dear Herald: Our semi-annual conference commenced com-menced on Friday, tho 1st instant. Audience not large but weather pleasant plea-sant and the lower hall of the new tabernacle ta-bernacle comfortable. Oo Saturday, 2nd, the audience was larger and the services were interesting and instruc-I instruc-I tivo. The bishops and presiding ol-ficers ol-ficers mado reports from the several wards of Southern Utah, showing a state of general peace and prospe;ity. On Sunday, tho 3rd, tho great hall was rilled and th speakers wore earnest ear-nest and fluent in tho olucidation of the principles of the Latter-day work. Tho meeting at a late hour adjourned to December 2Sth. Wo arrived homo from our trip north on tho '27th ult. io tho enjoyment of good health, tine weather, and warm remembrances of the kind generous friends we had found, io our ubsenco. After eleven days travel over good roads (save the ruts aod rough caused by dry' wear and a few mud holes like those met with io passing through Bound valley) we found our gardens and fields verdant with vegetation, not jet having been darkened by frosts. Tho beauteous dowers still gladdened tho eve with their fragrant beauty, rouna rosy fruit ornamented tho trees and grapes purple and white, in their greatest richness, hung upon the vine, and wo wcro glad io their beauty and swaetness, and were welcomed home by idjoicing friends. On the night of the 30th the despoilar came, frost nipped and killed tender vegetation, but tho hardier Bowers and roses still remain to us. The corn crop and late vegetables maturod splendidly and grape were never bolter. . Wino making mak-ing is finUhed an4 the sere and yellow loaf gives a sad autumnal hup arpund. All is peace aud quiet. Ves I One who dia not know how to enjoy our sort of domestic peace would say "ex-oruoiatingly "ex-oruoiatingly quiot." Indians are peaceful, peace-ful, our herds and flocks fat, harvests gathered, and we have a few months lor other labors, amusements, improvements, improve-ments, and rest. The suo shines brightly again and we arc content. Some unusual discoveries near here of late havo caused a slight rustle of excitement. . - Yours, J. |
