Show Party Fealty. To the Chicago "Times," the Rock Island "Argus" propounds thiB conundrum : "Any man who claims to be a Democrat Dem-ocrat ought to sustain his party hadnt he ?" To this specimen brick of the powerfully pow-erfully cvoss-oyed grammarian, the 'Times," suggests that perhaps the qucstiou, whether any man who claims to be a Democrat ought to or had ought to, or hadn't, or hadn't oughtcr sustain his party, may depend on whether 'his party" is or is not an instrumentality in-strumentality of Democratic purposes and ideas. Calling a party by any peculiar pe-culiar or particular title doesn't alter the fundamental make-up of the institution, insti-tution, any more than calling a calf's tail a leg makes it a leg, The "Times" thinks that the party convention which met at Baltimore and nominated an anti-Democrat upon an anti Democratic Demo-cratic platform did nothing Democratic And the "Tim:s" has the consolation that no man who believes in the true-blue true-blue brimstone Democracy is under the least obligation to sustain the behests of the Baltimore convention. It is yaguely rucored in Indiana that just one hundred and thirty Straight-outs endorse tho views of the "Times." The soothing sound of November election elec-tion gales are expected also, to correct the grammar, and twist the kinks out of the eyes, of the " Argus" of Rock Idand. |
