Show seems, which can be worked into the platform in contradistinction to the Cincinnati platform, must be opposition opposi-tion to the 14th and 15th amendments ; and this would be so absolutely reactionary reac-tionary and pre-adamite, that it would disgust sensible peoplo everywhere. A free-trade plank may also be inserted, inser-ted, although the Cincinnati plan of leaving it to the congressional districts, for the people to pronounce upon it, is infinitely preferable. The rest will likoly be made up of the usual "glittering "glit-tering generalities" that read so well and mean so little. Disinfectants in the School Room. BY PUOF. -M. C. STEBBINS, Principal Hpringliold High. School. Among tho most interesting developments develop-ments of science, are thoso that havo resulted from the minute and careful experiments conducted by Professor Tyndall and others, showing the great quantity and variety of organic 6ub- . stances that aro constantly floating in the air. Evidence is steadily accumulating accumu-lating tendiDg to substantiate tho theory ' that many epidemic and contagious diseases are communicated by means of thoso invisible floating spores. That they are often carried in great numbero in the libers of tho clothing from sick rooms, and from the immediate vicinity of diseased persons, can scarcely be doubted. Disease has often broken out whore euch a connection of cause and effect could bo traced, and no other. Another result of exporimont is the belief that pre-por disinfectants aro ths the most effective means for the destruction destruc-tion of thoso soeds of disease. Tho opinion was quite prevalent, a few years since, that belladonna taken as a medicine medi-cine had considerable virtuo as a preventive pre-ventive against scarlet fever. This opinion has been lately quite generally abandoned, while some, at loast, believe that a judicious use of disinfectants nilurd much greater security against that and kindred diseases. While sulphurous sul-phurous acid, chloride of lime, and car-Oelatc car-Oelatc of limo cannot ba used without inconvenience, on account of their unpleasant un-pleasant odor, in frequented rooms, chemical science has recently brought out a disinfectant apparently moro effective effec-tive than either, which can bo safely and conveniently used anywhere, since it is iree from odor, and when promptly diluted does no hiirm to tho color or texture of carpets. This is Bromo-(JriLuKALUM. Bromo-(JriLuKALUM. Would it not bo worth while, us a sanitary measure, occasionally occasion-ally to sprinkle the floors of our school room?, churches and other assembly rooms with it? If this were dona at tho cloo of a session, tho nirt instead of being kept in its foul condition until tho next gai lie ring, would be cleansed of its impurities, it' tho sprinkling wore repeated re-peated just before tne pupils assemble, there wuuld bo a tendency to lesson tho accumulation of unhoallhincss in tho at-mosphuro at-mosphuro of tho room. No thoughtful person can doubt that the question: liow wo may secure tho best sanitary condition ui our schoolrooms and public halls, is worthy of moro attention than it has generally received.
