Show The Street Cars. Salt Lake City, Oct. 15, 1S73. Rlitors Salt Lake Herald : I ask your indulgence to publish an article on the street cars on First South street, in addition to those already al-ready issued. It is an old question, but not old enough to die out yet. It needs, rather, doctoring to make it better. J have always labored under the supposition that the street ca.rs were run lor the accommodation o. the puL"!?; but my personal experience since they started is, that the contrary is the fact, from reasons, which I am prepared to prove by conclusive data: Contrary to advertisement that the cars would run lor the mo-ning trains, they scarcely ever do so; sometimes not even one car leaving the switch until 7 o'elock, Lhe other two by hail-past hail-past eight. This would indicate that the drivers start wten (hey please. Playing no regular schedule fine upon winch to run, and owing to personal per-sonal quarrels among themselves, tho drivers at times put their teams on the lope, or slow ihcm to a walk, to annoy each other, sometimes taking twice as long to make a round trip ns they ought to, or laying on the switch ten or fifteen minutes, thus annoying the passengers. This would indicate that they run hoic Uu:y pleaset Last evening, although one of tho drivers brought a load of passengers down to the theatre, and was told by them they hoped the cars would be sure to run east such a snowy night as it was, not a car was there, causing caus-ing some thirty-five persons lo walk through the slush (who would not have come if the curs were not constantly con-stantly running at close of theatre) endangering the health ot some women and children. As one of the (raveling public, I ask cannot the public be beUeraoeom-modated beUeraoeom-modated by the company? My opinion as to the causes, is, that the drivers are overworked and gratify personal feeling when public accommodation should govern; and that Uic superintendent has too much properly. Let these grievances be remedied, and tlie daily irritutiun of your subscriber will be allayed. Ax Old Thavj.er. |
