Indications from the returns now in are that Baxter is elected governor, and that Arkansas has gone for Orant by two to three thousand. Hodges, Republican, is probably elected elect-ed to congress in the first district, Snyder, Sny-der, Republican, in the second, and Gunter, Democmt, in tho third. Tapeko, 7. The Republican State central committee figure Grant's majority majo-rity in Kansas at 30,000. Nashville, Tenn., 7. Reports of the election, received from Democratic and Republican sources, make the congressional congres-sional delegation stand as follows : First district, Butlert Republican; 2nd, i Thornburg, Republican; 3rd, Crutch-j Crutch-j field, Republican; 4th, Bright, Demo-! Demo-! crat; 5th, Harrison, Republican: 6th, Gidds, Republican; 7th, Atkins, Democrat Demo-crat ; 8th, Munn, Republican; 9th, Lewis, Republican. For the State at large, Maynard. If subsequent figures make no changes, the delegation will stand eight Republicans ana two Democrats. It was not expected that the Republicans would carry, under the new apportionment, more than two districts, dis-tricts, and the Democrats do not yet give up Whitehorne in the 6th district, but concede the election of Maynard. The returns from middle and west Tennessee Ten-nessee show that Brown lost heavily upon his vote in 1870, and the Democrats Demo-crats fear he is beaten. The Republicans Republi-cans expected no such result, and are astonished at the prospect of Brown' defeat. The Republicans haye made large gains in the legislature. Slew York, 9. Revised returns to 9 o'clock to-night give Grant 47,717 majority ma-jority in tho State, while Dix is over 1,000 votes ahad, having 48,851 majority. major-ity. Each is likely to exceed 60,000. The full city vote for mayor, except two precincts, give Havomeyer 61,616; Lawrence 46,56 ; O'Brien 34,432. Detroit, 7- Grant's majority in Michigan Mich-igan is fifty-five to sixty thousand. All the Republican congressmen are elected by majorities from 1,600 to 8,000. The State senata is entirely Kepublican; and in tho house are not more than seven or eight Democrats out of 100 members. Memphis, 7- A dispatch from Jackson, Jack-son, Tennessee, to-night, uays Munn, Republican, is undoubtedly elected to congress in the 8th district Montgomery, Ala., 7. Unexpectedly large gains in the northern countios ia- i dicato the election of tho Republican State ticket by a small majority. The Democrats claim a small majority in both houses of the legislature, Bram-burg, Bram-burg, Liberal, is elected to congress from tha first, Sloss from the 6th, and Oiildwcll from the 6th district. Richmond, 7.-The Republicans claim Virginia by throe to five thousand, with the 1st to the 6th congressional districts, leaving the Oth, 7th, 8th, and 9th to the Democrats. Louisville, 7. It is believed that Grant haB carried four of the ten congressional con-gressional districts, with two doubtful, and four certain for Greeley. The Republicans Re-publicans concede the Wtato gone for Greeley by from 7,000 to 10,000. Reports of the horse disease are untrue. un-true. Dubuque, Iowa, 7. Sixty counties give Grant 42,782 majority. The total majority in the state will bo 56,000. All the Republican congressmen are elected. Murder. Dover, N. J., 7. To-day two Italians came to Dover from New York, and going go-ing to the store of Giovanni Barroti, one of them claimed Barroti's housekeeper as his truant wife. After some words he stabbed the woman dead, and inflicted inflict-ed probably a mortal wound on Barroti Both men are arrested. Much excitement excite-ment prevails, and there are threats of lynching. General Meade. "Washington, 7. Genoral Sherman has issued a general order, reviewing in a feeling manner tho life and services of general Meade. He instructs general McDowell, at New York, to make all arrangements for the funeral. Flags at all military posts are to be at half mast, and minute guns to be fired on the occasion: oc-casion: and otHcers aro to wear the usual badge of mourning. It is understood under-stood that general A. H. Terry, now commanding in tho department of the South, or general Canby, commanding in the department of Columbia, will be appointed major-general in -the place of Meade. Piew Tork Intelligence. New York, 7. The flags at the public pub-lic offices in this city to-day were at half mast, in respect to General Meade. Tho chamber of commorco has endorsed en-dorsed tho resolutions of the Boston board of trade, asking for a modihea-tion modihea-tion of the President's proclamation, imposing a difference of duty of 10 per cent, on goods carried in French ships, so as not to apply to vessels afloat at the 1 dBy of proclamation. The eorouer'a jury in the case of Samuels, the patient at Ward's Island lunatic asylum, gave a verdict that death was caused by improper treatment treat-ment by ignorant attendants.
