The first was a race between Gilmf r's Ringbone and Wines' Bay Charley. The horses were called up for the first heat at 3 p.m., and after scoring once got the word on as even a start as ever was seen on a race track. It was a very exciting heat, every inch of ground was contested, but Ringboue had the foot of Charley and he won the first heat After the usual time they were called for the second heat, when the start was as good as in the first; and it was everybody's heat until the finish, when Charley was declared winner. The third heat was won by Charley also. The fourth heat was given to Ringbone. Ring-bone. For the fifth heat the driver of Charley was changed, and the horses got away on as fine a start as was possible. pos-sible. Charley trailed for about j of a mile, when his driver called upon him, and he answered io gallant style, and when within a hundred yards of the score he carried Ringbone to a break and be won the heat, race and money, without difficulty. Between the fourth and fifth heats of the first race, ihero was a trot between be-tween Gilmer's brown mare and Patrick's bay mare. This was like tbe handle of a jug, all on one side; the brown mare walked away and distanced the little bay. To wind up, there was a half mile spurt between the grey pacer Sheep and the black pacer Nig. Nig got away with the baggage after a well contested struggle, in 1.31. Below we append a summary.
