Mrs. Bates u Mrs. Halle;, dressed tho character in the subdued style appropriate to it, and in-tended in-tended by tho author of the piece, and essayed her part in excellent stylo. Mr. Bates, as usual in everything ho undertakes, played tho character of the Stranger capitally. The drama ia oiio of a .singularly peculiar character, as tho intensity of tho plot is greatly more apparent io the reading of the play than in its rendition on the stage. Tho sonUuieot is comaaonplaoe, while the plot inspires an interest as intense j as that which results from reading tho story of the Wandering Jew.
