Show The Good Templaus. Upon Friday Fri-day night tho meeting held at tho Methodist church to inaugurate the Good Templar movement was largely attended. Mr. Lewis F. Alpoy, with a few explanatory remarks, introduced Dr. C. S. Haswell, of Sacramento, who delivered an able address in favor of temperance, urging the necessity of organizing to counteract tho evils of intemperance, now on tho increase in this city, to rescue victims of the uo restricted traffic in intoxicating liquors, to save the young from falling into the vico of drunkcncBS, and enablo those who unaided would fall to become useful members of society. Tho Rev. C. C. Stratton, Rev. G. M Pierco, and governor Woods also spoke earnestly ear-nestly in favor of a Good Templar's lodge; when thirty-two members enrolled en-rolled their names and tho following ladies and gentleman wero clectod first officers of the Salt Lake lodgo of I. 0. G T.: Rev. G. M. Pieroe, W. C. T.; Mrs. L. B. Sanger, W. V. T.; James Davies. W. 3.; J. M. Motcalf, W. A. S-; Miss F. S. Lingo, W. F. 3.; I. C. Sheppard, W. M.; Dr. Wm. II. Groves, W. T.; U. F. Clevor, W. I. G.; a. 0. Peaso, W. 0. G.; Ed. Bryan, P. V, Chief Templar; Rev. C. C. Stratton, W. Chaplaio. Xl was resolved that tho installa tion ot officers should take place at the Methodist church on Wednesday next, Feb. 5th, at 7 o'clock p.m.; that tho installation be public; and that all Good Templars, and the friends of temperance, bo especially invited to bo present. Au address will bo delivered de-livered after tho installation by Dr. C S. Haswell, P. G. W. C. T. of tho order. |
