This next is A BILL To amend an act entitled "An aot to enable honorably discharged soldiers and sailors, their widows and orphan ohildrcn, to acquire homesteads on the public lands of tho United Slates," and the amendments thereto. Whereas, by an act of oougresj entitled enti-tled an "Aot to enable honorably discharged dis-charged soldiers and sailors, their widows and orphan children, to acquire homesteads home-steads or tho public lands of tho United Uni-ted S aten," approved April 4, 1872, and by tho amendment thereto, approved ap-proved June S, 1872, it is provided that said soldiers and sailors, their widows and orphan children, shall havo tho right to enter homesteads of l(ii) acres each, upon what are called aud known as"double minimum"lands, or lands within tho limits of railroad grunts ; and, Whereas, many soldiers and sailors bad, prior to tho passage of said aot and the amendments thereto, entered homesteads within said limits, not exceeding ex-ceeding eighty acres each, and are unabk), under the terms of said aot and amendments and tho rulings of the general land offico, to avail themselves of tho advantages of entering 160 acres of said "double minimum" land; and, Bo it enacted by the senate and house of representatives of tho United States of America in congress assembled, assem-bled, that section two of tho aot entitled enti-tled an "Aot to amend an aot relating to soldiers' and sailors' homesteads," approved June 8, 1872, be amended so as to read as follows : That any person entitled under the provisions of the foregoing sections to enter a homo-stead, homo-stead, who may have heretofore entered en-tered und or tho homestead laws a quantity of land less than 160 acres, shall be permitted to enter so much land as, when added to tho quantity previously entered, shall not exceed 160 aoren.
