Show i The "Monitor." One of these furnaces, the invention of Dr. Scheu-j Scheu-j ner and patent applied for, is to be ; taken down to Union Fort immediately immedi-ately for trial. It is iron-bouud, with an inside vacuum of thirty-three cubic-feet cubic-feet ; and is expected to work steadily. It will work sis hundred pounds of ore per hour, consuming fifteen bushels ol coal per ton ; the hot, carbonic-gas blast injected being eighteen thousand cubic feet per hour. One advantage it possesses is, that it is portable and can be taken to any place where a furnace fur-nace is desired at little expense; and the lining will last from fifteen to twenty-one days, running day and night, unless for the requisite stoppages to remove slag or bullion. |
