Show Tuk Market Ordinance. Some timo ago Pat. Lannan opened a butch-or's butch-or's shop, or meat market, on East Temple street, between Second and Third South, contrary to the provisions provi-sions of tho market ordinance. For this ho was brought before Alderman Alder-man Clinton, with Messrs. Smith k Earlc for attorneys, Judge Snow for the city. Motion was mado to dismiss dis-miss tho case on the want of legal competency of tho court, and ths invalidity in-validity of tho ordinance. Tho motion was overruled, as similar motions ! had been done; a demurrer was filed, which was also overruled, whon the case was set for trial by jury, twelve citizens being empaneled as jurors for the purpose The triul concluded and the caso was given to tho jury about half past nine last night. After being out .over an hour they returned a verdict agatnt tho defendant, defend-ant, assessing a fine of $25 for tho offence. |
