Show Bingham. Ono of tho Herald j corps paid a flying visit to Bingham a oouple of days ago, and found quite a flourishing town in the canon, with all tho ovidenccs of prosperity, and in which there is considerable business done. Thero arc lour mercantile houses, trading in general merchandise KciscWt Goddard, the oldest and largost establishment, doing a fine business, bus-iness, Ilenshaw & Co., Paul k Co., and Buck k Co., all cnergotiomen and 8ourishing. There is ono assay office, that of Mr. Chas. II. Moore; and two hotels the Dixon and Bingham house, tho former kept by Porrin & McGuire, where good accommodation, a good table ta-ble and good beds can bo found, and which seems to be taking tho lead in business Wo were informed that the best of feelings exist among thepeople, who represent the different conflicting elements of Utah, but believe the world is large enough for them all, and that there is wealth enough in Bingham to satisfy each. The charms of social life are enjoyed in parties and pleasant gatherings There is a school well attended at-tended by tho juveniles of the canon ; and we did not aee any drunkenness or appearance of intemperance, though there are two or thrco bars where the fiery fluid is dispensed. Wc paid a very pleasant visit to the works of Daggett k Bristol and the Wioncmucca mine, of which wc shall have more to say soon ; but wore unable, una-ble, through lack of time, logo further up the canon and visit the works of the Utah Silvar Mining Co., limited, though courteously invited to do so by Capt. Rawhngs, the superintendent. This" pleasure we shall endeavor to enjoy en-joy on another visit, and accept other proffered and hearty invitations. Tho people arc sanguine with regard : to the mining interests of tho canon,., and there is no doubt that some of tho mines arc very rich, while in others the quantity of low grade oro seems to be incxhaustable. The road in tho canon, is exceedingly bad in places, and tho residents and those owning own-ing properly in Bingham, feel that the county should givo them somo assistance in repairing it. They say they have been called upon to pay their taxes, and have done so, and they think a portion of the amount should be ro- turned in aiding them to have a good j road. Doubtless tho proper county ofli- eers will tako tho" oondition of tho I road into early consideration. - ToMi'i Isidore Morris we aro much indebted for courtesies extended to the Herald, which we shall bo happy to i reciprocate when opportunity offers. |
