Booth and Kanman spoke here last night to the larger and most enthusiastic crowd ladies and gentleman ever assembled in a political audience in Tehama county. Booth's address was a masterly effort and exposition ex-position of the political situation. Nevada, 0. Last night a team ran away, throwing out John Carmacho, the driver, and Wm. Wiekc; Car-maeho Car-maeho had two rib broken and was otherwise injured; Wicke had his knee badly hurt. As the team came into Nevada it ran over Samuel Dayton, injuring him so that he died this moruing. moru-ing. San Diego, b The ejunty convention adjourned last night, after being in session for two days. A full county ticket was nominated, with tho exception excep-tion of public administrators. The county carried off every officer but treasurer, county judge and district attorney, which were given to the town. The new town waa thrown out entirely iu tho distribution. It was ottered the Subho administrator, but indignantly eclined. The general impro-ion is that the ticket is very weak, and that the Republican party have it in their1 power to carry tho county. Tho nomination nomi-nation of B. C. Truman for joint Senator, by a bogua dolegutiou, was repudiated, and s new delegation wa appointed to meet tho delegation from San Bernardino and nominate a joint Senator. Viaalia, 0. Tho Domoorats held a ratification meeting here lust night, whioh waa largely attended but exhibited ex-hibited a marked lack of enthusiasm. Tho Republican- of Visalia also held a large ratification meeting last evening. The principal business houses were brilliantly illuminated, and ton tires blazed tho full length of Main hireet. The bay wu- surpassingly sur-passingly beautiful, and there were a groat number of people out to witness the display. There was a noticeable absence among tho crowds on the sidewalks side-walks of the element from which trouble would be likely to come if thero wero any. and more than the usual good order and quiet everywhere prevailed. pre-vailed. At thojunetiou uf Market and Kearney streets, where the procession formod, the crowd of spectators was very largo, but not a cheer, hiss or other demonstration of any kind betrayed be-trayed the least feeling for or against the affair. The same order and complete com-plete quiet prevailed along tho entire lino ot march. At hall-past 1 1 a.m. the procession moved down Kearney street, and was just half an hour in passing a given point, marching qiiito rapidly and in fine order, beiug most admirably marshaled. Many larger processions have beeu seen in San Francisco, but none more brilliant nor characterized by more admirable taste in all the appointments. The ease of David Calderwood,who was committed to jail ia default of the payment of two fines of $500 oaeh, for contempt of oourt, by Judgo Sawyer, came up before Judge Wallace of the Supreme Court for final disposal in habeas corpus cor-pus to day. Judge Wallace dismissed the writ, and remanded the prisoner ! to the oustody of the sheriff. Four more car loads of Iowa hogs, , purchased at fix cents a pound, live weight, have arriyed overland in a fair condition. Crown Point declares a dividend ol two dollars; Jacket of two-fifty. |
