Mr. Pomoroy presented a bill, to unite tbo postal and telegraph services. Mr. Sumnor gave notico of a bill to abolish the office of commissioner of internal in-ternal revouuo and to roduco taxation. Tho joint.resolution to arrest tho recusant re-cusant -witnesses in North and South Carolina was discussed. The standing committees were appointed and tho senate sen-ate went into executive session. Among tho bills proentod were those regulating the pay of officers of tho navy and exocutivo departments, and for the incorporation of a postal telegraph, Gardner G. Hubbard, of Massachusetts and John T. Tracey, of Illinois being among tho incorporators. Among tlio nominations sent to the senato to-day were John W. Dougluss, commissioner of internal revenue; Wm. McMichael, assistant attorney general; Daniel li. Johnson, jr., associate .justice of the supremo court lor Now Mexico; J, W. Judgo Bond today, to-day, in the United States court, delivered de-livered an opinion on the motion of the defence to quash the indictment against ' Allan Crorby and others charged with violating t he Ku Klux laws. The court decided thai two of the eleven counts were gooJ, that six were bad, and on three counts the court was divided. The motion to quash was overruled. Childtrs, from Lark county, was arraigned ar-raigned and pleaded not guiltv. The defense called a jury peremptorily, to which tho government objected. The court reserved its decision until tomorrow. to-morrow. The Wharton Cnsr. Annapolh, 7. Tho first witness in the Wharton case lo-ilay was Mrs. Hat-ton, Hat-ton, who detailed the circumstances connected with Mrs. W harton's making a glass of milk, much of which Van Ness drank, and in which a sedimentof tartar emetic was found. Dr. Williams, who attended Ketclium during hissiek-i hissiek-i ness, testified to the facts connected with I the illness, and stated that Mrs. Hatton j gave him a bottle when ho entered the house which Mrs. Wharton said was found in Ketchum'a bed. This bottle the doclor thought had contained laudanum. laud-anum. Mrs, Vi harton was anxious this fact should not bo made known, fearing it might give rise to an impression that tho general had administered the laudanum himself. The witness wit-ness tcs'.itied to being puzzled with regard to the general's condition, and remarked to Mrs. Hattor. his belief that the general was poisoned. He detailed de-tailed the circumstances of examining Hie sediment found in tlio tumbler Ehown him by Mrs. Laney, and which examination examin-ation convinced him tho substance was metallic poison. This discovery changed his doubts to conviction. Soon after the general died. Post-mortem examination lailled to discover tho cause of death in the brain and an examination of the stomach discovered nothing noteworthy.
