The following communication wa received re-ceived yesterday by mayor Wells, whereupon he issued a call, which we publ'sh below, for a memorial meeting, t) be held in the city hall this evening 7:.'i0 o'clock. We understand that several prominent gentlemen have been invited to deliver addresses on the oc-cision, oc-cision, and it is expected that the meeting wLUi.be placed in direct telegraphic tele-graphic communication with the meeting meet-ing held in Washington, D. G: ' National Telegraph Memorial Monument Association, Washington, D. C., April 5, 1S72. To the Hon. D. II. Wells Mayor of the Cityof Salt Lake, Utah: Sir: I have the honor to transmit to you herewith a resolution adopted 6y this association, inviting the co-operation of the friends and admirers of 'he late Professor Samuel P. B. Morse throughout the country, in holding meetings, on Tuesday evening, the loth inst., simultaneously with a great national na-tional memorial meeting to be held in the house of representatives at the national capital. On behalf of this association, I respectfully res-pectfully and earnestly request you to take appropriate measures, at the earliest moment possible, for holding such a meeting in your city at the time named. The telegraph wires will be freely open on the occasion for an exchange ex-change of sentiments between the several meetings and the One held here. Whereas the United States house of representatives has placed its hall at the disposal of the National Telegraph Memorial Monument association, for the purpose of holding a memorial meeting in honor of the late Samuel b B. Morse, on Tuesday, April loth, and prominent members of both houses of congress and other distinguished distin-guished speakers have consented to address the meeting. And whereas the telegraph has been freely placed at the disposal of this association as-sociation for that evening, to secure an exchange of sentiments with the meetings meet-ings held in all portions of the country. Bo it resolved, That the municipal authorities of the cities of the United States are hereby invited to call meetings meet-ings of similar character in their several sev-eral localities on the same evening, in order that the meetings may bo in telegraphic tele-graphic communication, and thus a simultaneous expression he given to the national grief on tho occasion of this irreparable loss. To the Citizens of Halt Lake Gif t The natious are called upon to mourn the loss of a great and good man in tho demise of professor Samuel F. B. Morse, the father of telegraphy. As a befitting token of respect, memorial meetings are to be simultaneously held in the several cities of the United States on Tuesday evening, April liHb, to give expression to the universal feeling feel-ing of regret at the irreparable loss. The people of S?It Lake city, without with-out distinction, arc respectfully invited to convene in the lteprescotativos' hall in the City Hall, at half past 7 o'clock, on Tuesday (this evening), to join with their fellow citizens throughout the Union in the expression of sympathy for tho illustrious dead.
