The last sentence evidently means that all indictments will be ordered qua.ili.id, as it is not likely the Supreme Court of the United States would act in a matter which would hcem to be the ritfht of the Territorial judiciary. Wo have no exuberant feeling Lo give uetterance to over this decision, neither is it unexpected; but it in ratifying rati-fying to realize that the position the IIkilai.d ban all nlonir maintained on tho subject has thus been authoritatively endorsed by the highest tribunal in the country. The courso of tho IIeeiai.o was attributed attri-buted to partisanihip, while instead it was based upon tho opinion of the host lawyers in the Territory, and was pursued, not with a desire (o combat an opponent, but in the interests of right and justice. Tho importance of this decision will be best understood when the character of the judicial rulings reversed by it arc calmly weighed and their results contemplated. We can not but congratulate our fellow-citizens upon this vindication of their legal rights, and the consequent safty of their lives and libertics.and business men that heir just interests arc so authoritatively authorita-tively shielded from attacks winch would militate against the prosperity of every leading industry in the Territory, Terri-tory, and that capital may be invested without the fear of a process of blackmailing black-mailing which was rendered possible under the system of empaneling juries in operation here for over a year past. |
