Show A Stkance Case. Tho Lewiston Journal says: "Dr. XI II I has in his possession a diptheria membrane removed re-moved from the throat of a girl of fifteen fif-teen who was attacked by the severest type of this dreadful disease. Tbe false membrane is about'three inches in length, completely preserved, and is a perfect cast of the air passage from which it came. Tbe film is a thick, j white, tough, leathery substance, presenting pre-senting the wull known characteristics observed in attacks of this disease. The girl and her sister came from the eastern part of the State to work in the mills. She was unwell on the day of her arrival. She grew worse in spite of medical skill, and in a violent fit of coughing, seemed to be strangling. strang-ling. The nurse had the presence of mind to put her finger down the girl's throat, and, seizing the end of .something .some-thing which appeared to be loose, pulled out the false membrane of which we have spoken. The girl is now recovering. |
