J!:: EiAII) One Block T,nt of Bi "H'iny, 1 NEW YORK. I '!)' ' ' THE NOISELESS FAMILY SEWING MACHINE 1H THE Standard Machine of the World! Tlie Special Committee appointed to examine and report on Sewing Machine at Ike Jorth Carolina State Fair, held at Raleigh, last week, awarded a Gold Medal tot'-e Florence Sewing JHachine for the ease and quiet n ens of its movement 8, pe rfectlon and large variety of work., and Its valuable new features, making ma-king It the most valuable Sewing 1 Mac liin e for family use. Parties contemplating the purchase pur-chase of Sewing Machines are requested re-quested to read the fol owing from the New York "Tribune" of Oct. 19th, 1870: SEWING MACHINES. We have recently had occasion to make some inquiries into the progress of improvement improve-ment in the mechanism of sewing machines, and were not a little surprised to learn that the central idea in the first invention the shuttle still holds its placs, though many attempts have been made to supercede it. The shuttle, in combination with the needle, is still the eana used to form the stitcb. in ! the leading machines, and we find that the growth of trade is chiefly with the shuttle-using shuttle-using machine?. The improvements that are taking firm hold in practical use are, therefore, necessarily necessa-rily in connection with the shuttle, either in the detail of the shuttle itself, or in other pa.rU of the machine connected with it, to cause tnewholo to operate more perfectly and uniformly, and to simplify its use. M-uiy important saing in this direction, made since the firet great invention, are undoubtedly un-doubtedly embodied in tho "Florence" ma-chide; ma-chide; and we recommend our readers to carefully inspect the '"FloreLce" before making ma-king a choice. The points peculiar to this machino are: An unusual amount of money is arent in mailing the "Florcnee," thereby securing the bet mterijil steel, for instance, where otherc u-e c3t-ir.n ). and th& ( nest finish of important parts (the shuttle, for fiaionlv beine rigidly rejected if it variee from the standard -l (Xvth of an inch!; It if con -truutt d on the imple't cci entitle principles, entirely dispensing with the cc. and cams, and link? w.iicb ?u often pet perversely out oi order and eorHy perplex every one but tho practiced li.achini-it by their una-oun-able freak.-. The 'Florence" is to cisily managed, and i;s Uf"e id eo readily learned, that an ordinary girl of ten bai sense and muscle enough t. run it perfectly. Tnelock stitch, as made by the "Florence" in very re olarund perfect, very trong and elastic, and is drawn into the tabric evtnly. gradually grad-ually e..c:Iy, without jerking, and without causing the seam to pucker, or straining the thread so as to endanger ' breaking; con-ieo.uently, con-ieo.uently, very fine threnda and light ijbrico can bo ucd. The "Florence" is tbe only machine that hi3 a revcrihlo 'oed, whereby the direction di-rection of the sowing can be intuntly changed without stopping the work, thus enabling the operator to quilt er embroider with unusual tacility, to sew backwards and easily itrengthen a seam wherever desired and. finally, by a few repeated stitcher, to' fasten ends in the quickest and ptroDget way. It is the only machine that has a self-adjuoting self-adjuoting shuttle-thread tenoion, which works so porfejtly that the operator ran run acroii the l eavict seams and sew the finest linen and the thicken broadcloth in Immediate Imme-diate succession withont breaking the thread and without changing the needle, stitch or tension. The "Florence" drawn the threaj into the cloth with unequalei precision and certainty, by moans of an incenioun automatic auto-matic take-up" wheel, which dinposei of the slack thread left nftor the stitch with a accurate promptness that prevenU a'l snnrl-ing snnrl-ing or dropping of Btitches. and allown the oporator to sew backward, or to ran off the cloth and on again, with perfect impunity. It baa an improved elastic heinmer, exclusively exclu-sively its own, which it managed with eaje, and will make a hem of any width on any material It not only makes a perfect gather ana sews it to a band at one operation, but it hems, and binds, and fefs, and quilts and cords, and tucks, and gather, and braid without basting, buch special provision u made against injurious wear that the "Florence "Flor-ence is claimed and guaranteed by theCom-pany theCom-pany to lan twice as long without repair u any other pbuttle machine in the market, without the sligh'on difficulty. Every part of the "Florence" if Bo perfectly end permanently perma-nently adiuned, and it hup so fow joints and points of friction, that it runs with the utmost ut-most ease. Tho needle is set and threaded, and the stitch is lengthened, shortened, or reversed with the utmost ut-most cno. In usinn the "Florence" neither the work nor the operator's dress is liable to be soiled. The "Florenco" with all thre c aims to superiority, sells at tho same phew as othor first-class machines.
