The Special Committee appointed to nnmlne mid renoit o it Sewing Mtxcliliiea at the Aortli Carolina State Fair, held at Knlclgh laat tvvfkawardtd a Gold Medal totue, Florence Sewing Machine for the eaae and qtiletneva of It a movement, perfection and large varle t y of work, and Ita valuable new features, making ma-king It, the moat valuable Sewing Machine for family uae. Parties contemplating the purchase pur-chase of Sewing Machines are requested re-quested to read the following from the New York "Tribune" of Oct. 10tb. 1870: SEEING MACHINES. We have recently had occasion to make some inquiries into the progress of improvement improve-ment in the mechanism of sewing machines, and were not a little surprised to learn that the central idea in the first invention the shuttle still holds its place, though many attempts have been made to supercede it. The shuttle, in combination with the needie, is still the means used to form the stitch, in the leading machines, and we find that the growth of trade is chiefly with the shuttle using machines. The improvements that are taking firm hold in practical use are, therefore, necessarily necessa-rily in connection with the shuttle, either in the detail of the shuttle itself, or in other parts of the machine connected with it, to cause trie whole to operate more perfectly and uniformly, and to simplify iu use. Many important gains in this direction, made since the first great invention, are undoubtedly un-doubtedly embodied in the "Florenco" ma-chide: ma-chide: and we recommend our readers to careful?y inspect the "Florence" before making ma-king a choice. The points peculiar to this machine are: An unusual amount of money is spent in making the "Florenee," thereby securing the best material (steel, for instance, where others use cast-iron ). and the en est finish of important parts (the shuttle, fur example, being rigidly rejected if it varies from the standard l-2,0(jth of an inch 1) It is constructed con-structed on the simplest scientific principles, entirely dispensing with the cogs, and cams, and links wnich eo often get perversely out of order and sorely perplex every one but i the practiced machinist by their unaccount- i ablo freaks. The "Florence" is so easily I managed, and its use is so readily learned, : that an ordinary girl of ten has sense and muscle enough to run it perfectly. The lock-! stitch, as made by the "Florence" is very regular and perfect, very strong and elastic, and is drawn into the tabrio evenly, gradually, grad-ually, exactly, without jerking, aqd without causing the seam to pucker, or straining the thread so as to endanger its breaking; consequently, con-sequently, veiy fine threads and light fabrics can be ased. Besides this, the " Florence" (in all but the cheapest styles) also makes tnree aaaitionai stitcnes a aouoie iock, a single knot and a double knot which are stronger and more elastic than any other etitch, and which are made by no other ma onine. The "Florence" is the only machine that his a reversible leed, whereby the direction di-rection of the sewing can be instantly changed without stopping the work, thus enabling the operator to quilt er embroider with unusual lacihty, to sew backwards and easily strengthen a seam wherever desired, and, finally, by a few repeated stitches, to fasten ends in the quickest and strongest way. It is the only machine that has a self-adjusting self-adjusting shuttle-thread tension, which works so perfectly that the operator can run across the i. eaviest seams and sew the finest linen and the thickest broadcloth in immediate imme-diate succession withont breaking the thread and without changing the needle, stitch or tension. The "Florence" draws the thread into the cloth with un equaled precision and certainty, by means of an ingenious automatic auto-matic "take-up" wheal, which disposes of the slack thread left after the stitch with an accurate promptness that prevents all snarling snarl-ing or dropping of stitches, and allows the operator to sew backward, or to ran off the cloth and on again, with perfect impunity. It has an improved elastic hemmer, exclusively exclu-sively its own, which is managed with ease, and will make a hem of any width on any material- It not only makes a perfect gather and sews it to a band at one operation, but it hems, and binds, and fells, and quilts, and Cords, and tuoks, and gathers, and braidtj without basting. Such special provision in inade against injurious wear that the "Florence" "Flor-ence" is claimed and guaranteed by theCom-pany theCom-pany to last twice as long without repair si any other shuttle machine in the market, without the slightest difficulty. Every part of the "Florence" is so perfectly and permanently perma-nently adjusted, and it has so few joints and points oi iriction, tnat it runs witn the utmost ut-most - ease. The needle is set and threaded, and the stitch is lengthened, shortened, or reversed with the utmost ut-most ease. In using the "Florence" neither tne work nor the operator's dresB is liable to be soiled. The "Florence" with all these claims to superiority, sells at the same price as other first-olass maohines. These ad van UK os : Liberality in manufacture; Simplicity of construction; Facility of management; Variety of Stitches; Reversible feed; belf-adjusting tension; Automatic take-up; Improvea hemmer; Provision against wear; Perfect and permanent adjustment; Easy regulation of needle and stitch; Cleanliness and cheapness; The beauty and high finish of the machine; Make the "Florence," moderately speaking, speak-ing, a machine which to he valued, needs but to be tried. No faiuily can afford to be without a sewing sew-ing machine, and we hope that before long one may be found wherever "The Tribune" is welcome. TO THE LADIES Of Salt Lake City, and through, out the Territories of Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, "We extend a cordial invitation to call at our office, and examine the Florence Family Sewing ilachine, "whether de signing immediate purchase or notj it is our business and pleasure to solicit close examination and comparison. A c have on exhibition, in order the mor easily to explain points of difference, in which, we claim superiority, the machines ma-chines of various makers, including th. Grover & Baker, Singer and Wheeler & Wilson. In making such comparison, compari-son, no unfair advantage will be taken of rival machines, but on the contrary they will be kept by a competent machinist ma-chinist in the best of running order, (some of them require as good an engineer engi-neer as a locomotive.) The vegetative powers of lifo are strong, but in a fow years how often tho pallid hue, th lack-lustre eye and emaciated form, and the impossibility of application applica-tion to mental effort, show its baneful influence. It soon becomes evident to the observer that some depressing influence influ-ence is checking the development of the body. Consumption is talked of, and perhaps the youth is removed from school and sent into the country. This is one of the worst movements. Removed Re-moved from ordinary diversions of the ever-changing scenes of the city, the powers of the body, too much enfeebled to give zeBt to healthful and rural exercise, exer-cise, thoughts are turned inwards upon themselves. If the patient be a female, the approach ap-proach of the menses is looked for with anxiety, as the first symptom in which Nature is to show her saving power in diffusing tho circulation and visiting the cheek with the bloom of health. Alas ! increase of appetite has grown by what it fed on; the energies of the system are prostrated, and the whole economy is deranged. The beautiful andwonderful period in which body and mind undergo so fascinating a ehaDge from child to woman, is looked for in vain: the parent's par-ent's heart bleeds in anxiety, and fancies fan-cies the grave but waiting for its victim. Helmbold's Extract Buchu, for "Weakness arising from excesses or early indiscretion, attended with the following symptoms: Indisposition to Exertion, Loss of Power, Loss of Memory, Difficulty Diffi-culty of Breathing, General Weakness, Horror of Disease, "Weak Nerves, Trembling, Trem-bling, Dreadful Horror of Death, Night Sweats, Cold Feel, "Wakefulness, Dimness Dim-ness of Vision, Langour, Universal Lassitude Las-situde of the Muscular System, Often Enormous Appetite with Dyspeptic Symptoms, Hot Hands, Flushing of the Body, Dryness of the Skin, Pallid Countenance Coun-tenance and Eruptions on the Face, Pain in the Back, Heaviness of the Eyelids Frequently Black Spots Flying before the eyes, with Temporary Suffusion and Loss of Sight, "Want of Attention, Great Mobility, Kestlessness, with Horror of Society. Nothing is more desirable to such patients than Solitude, and nothing they more dread.for Fear of Themselves; no Eepose of Manner, no Earnestness, no Speculation, but a hurried Transition from one question to another. These symptoms, if allowed to go on which this Medicine invariably removes soon follow Loss of Power, Fatuity, and Epileptic Fits, in one of which the patient may expire. . During the Superintendence of Dr. "Wilson at the Bloomingdale Asylum, this sad result occurred . to two patients; reason had for a time left them, and both died of epilepsy. They were of both sexes, and about twenty years of age. "Who can say that these excesses are not frequently followed by those direful diseases Insanity and Consumption? The records of the Insane Asylumns, and the melancholy deaths by Consumptiou.bear ample witness to the truth of these assertions. as-sertions. In Lunatic Asylums the most melancholy exhibition appears. The countenance is actually sodden and quite destitute neither Mirth or Grief ever visits it. Sluld a sound of the voice occur, it is rarely articulate. ""With woeful measures wan Despair Low sullen sounds their griefbeguiled." "Whilst we regret the existence of the above diseases and symptoms, we are prepared to offer an invaluable gift of chemistry for the removal of the conse quences.
