Show THE PIONEER ANNIVERSARY. The celebration on Monday was ia every way worthy of the day and the people. There were the usual artillery salutes, flag-raising, and other evidences eviden-ces of the feeling which pervades the community with regard to the ever memorable anniversary of the arrival in this valley of that band of hardy, Godfearing God-fearing heroes, the noble Pioneers. Ia the Tabernacle the extempore oration ora-tion by Hon. 0. Pratt, and the speeches by Hon. George A. Smith and President Presi-dent Young were fitting for the occasion, occa-sion, spirited, and bristling with points which filled every heart with increased devotion to the truvh and the men who have so Ions and so well led the Israel of the last day Hon. W. II. Hooper &'so made a few well-chosen remarks, and on being presented to the audience for Delegate at the next election, was sustained by ten thousand uplifted hands. The singing and the music were excellent, Marshal McAllister's song 'They all are talking of Utah" receiving a prolonged call for an encore. The after part of the day was in harmony with the earlier ear-lier part; and when the evening aitil-kry aitil-kry salute proclaimed sun-down, all felt that another happy celebration of the Pioneer Anniversary had passed. |
