Show SLATES AT RICHSTELD Many Disgusted republicans Will Vote the Democratic Ticket Richfield Oct HLat night the Republicans Re-publicans held their city convention at the Academy hall It a a battle of slates from first till last The night before a number of the old settlers principally Scandinavians met at the home of Mads Christensen and prepared pre-pared a slate I wasSan open daylight affair and the ticket was freely circulated circu-lated on the streets Toward evening there wag a small hand bill circulated on the streets containing the slate previously pre-viously prepared and one prepared by a number of Republicans on the street The convention was a jam and the feeling was warm Chairman Meteer talked of returning prosperity and made quite a McKinley speech but it brought faint applause Simon Christensen Chris-tensen was then chosen n chairman of the meeting and J M Lauritzen as secretary The precinct committee was reorganized reor-ganized with J W Coons chairman chair-man James M Bolitho vice chairman Carl Goldbrausar secretary Mrs V Rapp treasurer Simon Christensen r Eliza Nelson and Morten Jensen executive committee Then came the slates John Christensen Chris-tensen nominated Theodore Brandley for mayor andC W Collins nominated James 11 Bolitho The vote resulted Brandley 150 Bolitho 54 NIcfls C Poulson and Carl Goldbrau sar were the slated ones for rE order Poulson won by a vote of 136 t < 58 G W Blomquist the present marshal mar-shal was renominated by acclamation He was on both slates Simon Christensen the present city justice was on both slates and went through by unanimous vote Then came the breaking of slates The BolithoMeteer faction put James Christiansen In nomination The firstformed slate put up their man Heber Christensen Christiansen withdrew with-drew Bolithos followers then put up James Hansen and he won by 125 to 65 I councilmen Slates rattled and jangled on city The five selected were Bolitho Slate Robert Young L H Outzen Poul sonChristenson Slate L P Hansen Morten Jensen and A P Rasmussen Taken all In all the Republicans are not in good fighting trim Many of them will vote with the Democrats In the convention last night side threats were heard everywhere and the Republicans Repub-licans cannot be held together ELSINORE TICKET There will be but one town ticket in Elsinore It is President Lewis Soderbers Trustees C Peterson H C L son son William Sylvester James Soren |
