Show UTAHS CONSTITUTION The Prtxidciiits Copy May Be Seen This Forenoon Today up to the noon hour may be seen at Kelleys printing establishment establish-ment on Richards street the bound copy of the Constitution of Utah that will be taken to Washington next week and placed in the hands of the president of the United States The work is an elaborate creation of the art preservative and reflects credit on all concerned except the proofreader who has passed over an inverted sin s-in the word votes in the second line of the body matter under the head of Statement of Votes Cast A new and corrected page should be inserted of this one o the document will go down imperfect as the technical printer in Washington puts I Otherwise Other-wise everything is lovely The first page consists of the order of the constitutional convention taken from the journal of proceedings of May 2 1895 as reported by the committee com-mittee on rules and method of procedure pro-cedure and the same is signed by the acting chairman of the committee The next page is the statement of Votes cast which shows that 45fi2i persons were registered in the territory terri-tory and that 40784 of these voted for I constitutional delegates in 1894 In 1S95 there were 49717 voters registered and 41662 voted On the vote for ratification or rejection of the consti tution 31305 oted for 7687 voted against and 2670 did not vote at all The statement is signed by the members mem-bers of the Utah Commission The next page is the certificate of the Utah Commission which contains two wrong font eights 8 which mars its typographical appearance The engrossing of the constitution is I on parchment by the pen of Joseph F Smith and is a work of chirographic art The binding is artistic and up to date and aside from the three errors mentioned the work is 1 credit to Utah and her last act of territorial maidenhood |
