from the corner toward the horses shrilly calling Saa Francisco Call Call hereIn here-In an instant the lines tightened in th hands of the driver and Colonel Trumbo smiled on the boys Boss Charley Crane reached down in his pocket fished out the necessary and 1 bought a copy The boys darted away 7 JUid the equipage drove off Was it all prearranged Buffalo lUll Seems Displeased Buffalo Bill Glassman nd his Standard Stand-ard have heretofore been plastering th colonel with liberal amounts of panegyric and all seemed to be cC the warmest nature between them However How-ever there are evidently strained relations rela-tions as in th3 Standard Bill says auent the Cleveland convention 4 Of course we did not boost Colonel Trumbo to the sides for hat he did neither are we boosting him for liny office He must stand fin his own bot I tim and prove his worth to the people before the Standard can hold him up to the people of Utah as ithe man sinnng all men He did well at Cleveland Cleve-land that was only once Now let him krep up that gait and after awhile perhaps per-haps the party will reward him if he remains loyal and true Colonel Trumbo was elected a delegate dele-gate to the Cleveland convention tjy a handsome majority and for that honor it was his duty to give Ibis best efforts to his party Hence he has only paid the party for the honor bestowed upon nun Th attempt to make it appear that Colonel Trumbo has done such services that the party is under lasting I obligations is a little far fetched Sot a Republican The Tribune campaign liar got a little t lit-tle The South and Silver C So Collins of Little Rock Ark for a time right hand man of W H Harvey in the publication of the Daily Coin in a recent interview says It is plainly evident that the goldbugs I of New York are getting in their work by furnishing country newspapers readyprint matter free of charge Take the publishers of an ordinary country weekly who has a meagre support at best and when he finds that he can save from 20 to 23 pel I week in composition bills by using this goldbug literature the temptation is I so great that in a large number of cases he succumbs to the seductive I offer Besides the officeholders the bankers and other agents of the gold l trust were never more active Take Kentucky as an example I I know the people of that state well No one at all acquainted with them will deny that the great majority are the friends of silver Yet we see through the manipulation of money and federal patronage how easy it was I for the administration to score a victory i vic-tory I I supposed you noticed the recent proposition of the New York Financial Chronicle that a fund be raise to pay the campaign expenses of goldbug candidates can-didates throughout the country Of course it will be doneand thus we have both money and federal patronage I patron-age to contend with while we have neither patronage nor money and can rely only on the patriotism and intelligence intel-ligence of the people I tell you the approaching great political battle will be one of the hardest fought in the nations history and should we fail the gold standard stand-ard with all its evils will be fastened fasten-ed upon us for good We cannot hope to make anything like a winning fight unless you can unite all the friends of silver in the support of one I ticket The decks must be cleared I and a clean cut fight made between the single and double standard if we succeed Can that be done I dont know There ought to be wisdom and I patriotism and common sense sufficient suffi-cient among the leaders of the different j differ-ent silver elements to unite their forces Without it our cause is lost I |
