Show I CHARLES CRAKE Charles Crane was born in Oxford Eng December 25 1S13 going with ms parents to Gait Canada In 1853 where h < a continued In school until the spring of I860 when be went to Texas remaining re-maining there until March 1861 at whIch time owIng to little misunderstanding misunder-standing caused by his detestation of slavery came north arriving in Lafayette La-fayette Inn in April of that year Two days after President Lfncoln Issued his call for troops Mr Crane I i I CICARJLES CRA2VE vas enrolled In Company D Tenth Indiana In-diana Volunteers Colonel Manson commanding Mr Crane is justly proud of bus war record having been In active participation in twenty hard fought battles Immediately after the war Mr Crane returned to Teaa from which state in 1SG1 he left to fight the battles of the Union In 3869 Mr Crane spent seven months in traveling over the southern and nest > rn states arriving in June 1870 in White Pine Nev erecting Quartz mills in Mineral Hill Austin Virginia City Carson and Eureka arriving in Salt Lake IP IBiD In the fall of 3871 Mr Crane went down to Millard counts coun-ts takIng up land and commenced a home returning to Nevada for a few months in the spring of 1875 but again returned to Utah and assisted in the erection of the Shoebrldge mill In Tin tics Utah Concentrating works in 3lhom and the McHenry mill in itrlt City ih3m has been the largest owner it3heep In Utah and devoted many years to the development of that industry in-dustry securing a national reputation as a breeder and writer on all questions ques-tions affecting the wool growers interests inter-ests In the west Mr Ciane vas elected unanimously the chairman of the territorial committee com-mittee At the Republican convention of 1894 Sir Crane was again unanimously mously elected chairman |
