off impending im-pending revolution from the nation The platform was adopted Hon H W Lawrence of Salt Lake wart made permanent chairman and Miss Josephine Kellogg permanent ssc retary with S S Smith her assistant Mr Lawrence on taking the chair congratulated the convention that EC I many independent and free thinking men and women had met together This was a time if ever there was one when independent < men and women whc would stand up for their principles regardless re-gardless of pafty or politicians were needed In referring to the financial questior he paid I Money is creation of law the country with money but Mr Lawrence thought the country could stand one flood at least and besides there would be no flood as the silver of foreign countries was needed at home and would not be sent to this country as demagogues assert The nomination of delegates to the St Louis convention was next begun During the nominations a letter was read from James Hogan pledging himself him-self to go if elected and to do his best to overthrow the imperial Napoleonic policy of McKinley and donothing policy pol-icy of the other side and would otand by the Omaha platform I Mr Merritt was nominated and a good deal of heat developed One delegate said he was not a middleoftheroad Populist Mr Merritt rose and said he was as good a Populist as any anarchist on the floor He was a resident of Wyoming and would not go as a delegatefrom Utah but he wanted it understood that he was a Populist When Mrs Kate L Hilliard was nominated the question was asked if she would go Mrs Hilliard replied that she would if she could and would be a middleoftheroad Populist too The delegates elected were James Hogan H W Lawrence M M Kellogg Kel-logg Frank S Luethi and Mrs Kate S Hilliard S Each delegate is privileged to name his or her own alternate On this point Mr Merritt of Salt Lake moved that the convention adjourn ad-journ until September 1 His point was that they might by that time fuse wlth some other party The motion was not wall received and was voted down only three voting ays aysThe The candidates nominated for delegate dele-gate to Congress were Warren Foster Fos-ter of Salt Lake R T Alvord of Weber and Elijah Sells of Salt Lake Foster received 115 votes Alvord 09 and Sells 3 Foster was declared < he nominefi Presidential electors were named as follows Henry W Lawrence T L Jones of Davis and H O Young of Summit The state committee chosen was as follows Dr Hasbrouck L H Gray John South I Maxwell S H B Smith Mrs J Gary Mrs James Hogan Tl L Gaut G F Brown Otto Lund Charles
