Show ADDRESS TO UTAH A Patriotic Appeal to Patrioti Men Words of Wise Connell and Warning by the Democratic Territorial Central Committee The committee appointed by tho Terri tonal Central committee at its meeting last Saturday to draft an address to the peopl of Utah held iu meeting last evening and adopted tho following appeal TO THE PEOPLE OF UTAH The Democratic party hails with dough this the most interesting and happy epoc in all the history of Utah Every cause or excuse as we confidently believe for the fierce contentions waged in the past and carried into every phase of our local life social and political has passed 8wais i buried beyond the hope of resurrection That conflict whatever may have been the standpoint of those engaged in it wa freighted with many manifest evils It sullied sul-lied the reputation of our territcry it darkened the annals of our history it impeded im-peded our growth and prosperity it disturbed dis-turbed the peace and destroyed the happiness happi-ness of our people When the natural person has passed through a stage of fever and delirium upon restitution to health the kindly hand of nature wipes away all memory of the painful pain-ful thoughts that harrowed the brain and racked the body and so let us forget the past and work for the future Let none and especially no Democrat cling to the dead issues of the past nor upon such basis give aid to those who would keep up what at best can be but a petty malignant and Ignoble strife The Democratic party Invites you to a wider and nobler field of political action Not only Utah but tho entire nation will bo the battle ground The cause to be espoused is that of Democracy The vital immortal principle to be promoted consists in tho spirit of freedom the principle which has in every condition of good or ill fortune infused life and hope and vigor in its adherents during a century of political contests waged against the usurpation of power and to preserve the nation in integrity within the channels marked out for it by the framers of the constitution The party that has stood by the liberties of the people for equality and justice that has kept guard and by virtue of the tenth amendment of the constitution to see that the administration adminis-tration of the federal government should not by means of loose and irrational construction con-struction overstep the sacred boundaries of national powers the party that has ever stood arrayed against special privileges monopolies and unjusttaxation which has opposed to all such political heresies the immortal principle of equal and exact justice to all special privileges to none the party that seeks not to acquire or retain power by bribery coercion or disfranchisement or by reducing to the condition of the mendicant men-dicant what ought to be a sturdy independent indepen-dent and selfreliant race or by making large classes of our citizens almstakers and debauched recipients of a nations bounty thus taking away all motives for self exertion exer-tion and manly independence that party that instead asks to succeed not by any such debasing influence but by an appeal to the conscience integrity and intelligence of a free people with reference to the correctness cor-rectness of its principles and the rectitude > f its purposes that party now makes its appeal to the people Utah for their support sup-port The appeal will not be in vain Every usurpation of power is a depriva Jon of liberty The favored classes the beneficiaries of perverted and usurped lowers of government hold in their grip and manipulate to thuir ends the organiza ion of the Republican party These classes are heartlessly employing bat party as the mere instrument of their avarice As they shall retain that party in control of the national government tbey rill also use that government as they have tone to make nInetenths of all the people be patient beasts to bear the heavy burdens bur-dens out of which monuments may be reeled to their opulence and aggrandize rant From the nations birth until this day tbe great Democratic party has been tho champion of individual liberty of the ri fights of selfgovernment and the su remacy of the federal government within the limits of the constitution all the time elieving that in the joint operation of these principles there will result a contented con-tented prosperous happy and patriotic people in spite of diversified interests a ation strong glorious and magnificent Into in-to contentment the patriotism and the nited strength of its citizens It was for all of these equally that the government was created must continue to exist All who would be freo and remain free lould unite with and work for the BUG cen of the Democratic party Dont be misled by tho spacious phrase Protection to American Industry which as applied and unforced by a Republican Iministration means only discrimination and robbery in disguise In conclusion we most heartily congratulate con-gratulate the people of Utah that tae time has come when all persons of whatever persuasion or creed who believo in the benign be-nign efficacy of Democratic principles as applied ap-plied to tho administration of government to i securo to all the people in the highest degree peace prosperity and happiness may unite and standing shoulder to shoulder work for their triumphant success suc-cess Published
