in Wages Its Main Bnsluess Men Other Intar etln Facts The enterprising town of Pocatello derived V de-rived its name from an old Indian chief Pocatellc who presided over a band of Shoshones once located in Bannock Creek r The name was glen by Colonel Sanders an agora Bent out by the government in 1859 Pocatello means rushing water and 110 doubt the suggestion was prompted by the location of the town on the Portneuf river which is quite rapid at this point The seed of this town was planted in the year 1SSO when the Utah < fc Northern ran I through the Indian Reservation and left an old box car for a depot at what is now the centre of Pocatello The only citizens I were a few Indians and the only houses a few teepees or Indian tents In 1SS2 the Oregon Short Line people made Pocatello Poca-tello their junction with the Utah Northern North-ern This was the signal for an era of creat prosperity Even with all the reservation restrictions placed on the town by the government gov-ernment the 0etormined efforts ol a few enterprising men caused the swaddling clothes of aboriginal childhood to be thrown off and in August of last year a townsite was secured and a town council organized with Mr Dan Swinebart as chairman and Charles DoVinnoy as marshal These gentlemen gen-tlemen with their colaborers did most excellent work and have left behind them a record that they may well be proud of The placo has thrived most wonderfully and is today one of the most lively towns in the west It bids fair to be one of tho coming strong cities of tho west ere many years have past I
