Show The Yellowstone Park Leases WASHINGTON April 30Tha question of the Yellowstone Park leases was again investigated in-vestigated by the Houso public lands committee com-mittee E C Waters ot Montana four years manager of the Yellowstone Park association testifying A letter was read to him addressed to T F Oakes of St Louis in substance as follows The party to whom 5COO worth ot Yellowstone Park association stock is to go when paid for in dividends is R C Kerens of St Louis I Will you please have Gibson or the proper I person notify him of the situation namely the amount held by order of tho directors t My friend will probably explain to him as fully as he desires A member of the committee asked witness wit-ness to whom the term my friend referred re-ferred witness replied it was his lawyer Witness was again asked to tell why tho 5000 stock was 30 promised and for what I purpose Waters said ho had come to Washington to secure certain leases from the secretary of the interior Vilas but had accomplished nothing and upon seeing he could not get anything done ho said to Oaks when another an-other administration camo in he could got the matter throueh Ho acknowledged his acquaintance with Russell Harrison and said at the time ho thought he ralfzht intercede inter-cede in the matter and help him got things fixed up Upon close questioning by a member of the committee witness said 5000 stock was intended for Russell Harrison but neither ho Harrison nor Kereno know anything about it Harrison however was to give his aid purely for tho public good and did not know the stock was set aside for him until last spring when he told him so Waters further said he never promised Russell Harrison stock for his influence and when ho was told of it Harrison Har-rison appeared very much embarrassed and said ho would not have the matter done for anything Harrison told him said Waters he would ace Secretary Noble and lay the matter before him but whether that was ever done he did not know as Gibson had come on to Washington to attend to tne matter and stayed until it was concluded The committee will continue the investigation I investiga-tion Monday |
