Show c IN MEUORUM Resolutions of Respect for Charles Shelton of Heber Citj To the Editor of THE HERALD HEBEE Jan 26th 1885 We regret to announce thedeath ot Elder Charles Shelton who after a short illness died at his residence in Heber on the lOtli January inst aged 60 years and 4 months At a meeting of the High Priests of the Wasatch stake of Zion on Saturday the 24th in Heber J K Murdock presiding the following resolutions were passed WHEREAS In the Providence of God it has become our sorrowful duty to mourn the loss of our dear departed br titer Charles Shelton who has been ICrk of our quorum for nine years Asa As-a jXen of our regard for the lamented deceased and to condole with his family It is icsolved that as members of the High Priests quorum we Lave sustained a great loss in the death of Brother Shelton that we recognized his high intellectual ability and faithfulness faithful-ness and will ever remember our pleasant plea-sant associations with him and whose kind and corteous presence will ever remain re-main fresh in our memories Resiihcii That we tender our sympathies sympa-thies to the family of the deceased and join them in their mourning Htsolced That we join with his family in erecting a monument to his memory Rfsohed That a copy of these resolutions reso-lutions although inadequate to fully express our sorrow be transmitted to his family spread upon the records of this quorum and published in THE SALT LAKE HERALD and Detent News Charles Shelton was born September 25th 1824 in Frederikton N Bwas baptized December 25th 1852 at Southampton South-ampton York County N B by Elder I Phillips His wife whosemaiden name was Rebeca Ann Dow was at the time a good Latterday Saint and was the means of bringing him into the Church In 1851 he started for Salt Lake with his wife and children While on the road the cholera broke out and he lost his wife and five children landing land-ing in Salt Lake City with one little son who still lives September 19th of the same year After remaining in Salt Lake City for a season he removed to Provo and was tithing clerk for six years and appointed president of the elders quorum He removed to this county in the spring of 1SG2 and taught school about two years In 1861 he was called on a mission to his native country and returned in 18GS He again settled in Provo and taught school for several quarters In the spring of 1870 he moved again to Heber City since which time he has ably filled the following offices viz county clerk for fourteen years county recorder for eight years stake clerk for seven years clerk for the hjgh priests quorum for nine years also teacher of one of the ward districts He married again on June 3d 1855 to Miss Catherine Cather-ine Hill by whom he had three children chil-dren He afterward married Miss Susan Jane Wilkins by whom he had eight children leaving a widow and ten children to mourn his loss Brother Shelton was interred in the Heber I Cemetery January 12th and was followed fol-lowed to the grave by a large number of friends filling sixtyone large sleighs j Thus has passed away to the home above one of the noblest of Gods I children Klntl liuiitvai aim iruuirui ami always faithful to await the time when he will again be Called forth in the resurrection of the jUst HEMIY CLEGO Secretary pro tern |
