Show FROM THE COUSTY JAIL JAL Three Prisoners Jake a Successful Success-ful Break for Liberty Probably one of the neatest pieces o jail breaking that has ever been heard of in this vicinity occurred at the County Jail sometime between 2 oclock Friday af tern Don and daylight yesterday morning Three prisoners the fellows who were arrested by Night watchman Watson a couple of weeks ago for burglarizing Alexanders store on Main Street and who were being held to await the acton of the Grand Jurywere confined in the large cell on tne west side of the building and when the guard went to call them for breakfast break-fast yesterday morning they were conspicuous con-spicuous by their absence and in their stead was a wagon load of dirt piled on the blankets in the middle of the floor while a hole in the floor gave evidence of the direction direc-tion of their Sight An invert gation proved that the fellows had succeeded in raising one of the flags which constitute the floor and bad ten excavated a hole to a depth of about five feet slanting towards the foundation This latter reached they burrowed under and came tjp o the lawn about three feet from the building build-ing and about five feet higher thaa the floor of the cell and vanished So fa as could be Men yesterday when a HERALD reporter visited the place the tunnelling about fifteen feetin all hid been accomplished by the use of a feW nails and a tin washbasin which had been allowed to remain in the rm The names of the tbeeeJel1ws a Kelly Frenchy or Tranoer and Quinby and the manner in which the goblwas accomplished gave every evi dencejthat they were no new hands at the ethattheywe Nothing had ben heard from them up to 1 ute hour last evening and it is hardly probable that they will over be apprehended in which case however a e will not lose much muc |
