Show Democratic ConTention I Co cconD JT H Jure 29The DemocratioSt ite conyeruion was called toorder this morning the chairman of the State comuJttee large number of delegates and spectators were present The resolution expressing sympathy with Gladstone in his home rule struggle strug-gle was unanimously adopted and it declared 1 the home rule right of the States to regulate their domestic affairs to be Democratic in doctrine uron which the nation is founded The platform pledges sunport to President Pres-ident Clevelands administration and congratulates him upon its success declares de-clares a devotion to the doctrine set forth in the last Democratic national platform that federal taxation shall be exclusively for public purposes and shall not exceed the needs of the government gov-ernment economically administered and the readjustment of the tariff is asked for on that basis demands that the rights of labor be fostered and all laws prejudicial to labor be repealed favors the principle of arci tration in the settlement of differences between labor and capital demands a ten hour law and weekly payments in all manufacturing establishments The first ballot for Governor resulted in the nomination of Thomas Cogswell of Germantown A resolntio was adopted endorsing the efforts of President Clevelan and Congressmen Morr on and Carlisle and their Democratic colleagues to revile the existing lurid laws |
