Show ImportantBaiik Case r WASHINGTON October 12The Pacific Pa-cific National Bank cases which were under argument in the Supreme Court of the United States today are of interest in-terest to a large number of persons especially in Massachusetts inasmuch as they involve the question of the liability lia-bility of the stock holders of the insolvent insol-vent Pacific > National Bank of Boston for the amounts of stock subscribed toby to-by them when the capital stock of the I bank was increased from 500000 to 1000000 in September 1881 The appealing i ap-pealing stockholders contend that the capital stock of the bank never was validly increased to 1000000 that the attempt on the part of the directors and comptroller of currency in December 1881 to fix the capital stock at 961300 was contrary to law and void and that consequently the shares of the so called new stock on which they are sued fomever had any legal existence The court below decided against them J |
