Show THE Brewers Journal publishes i official statistics showing that in 1881 nearly 16000000 barrels of malt Jiquor were sold in the United States or about 1200000 per month The sales reported from North Carolina Car-olina were only four barrels and no sales were reported from Alabama Arkansas Florida Maine Mississippi Missis-sippi or Vermont New York City sold nearly 3000000 barrels Philadelphia Phila-delphia 1000000 and St Louis Brooklyn Cincinnati and Milwaukee Milwau-kee more than 7000000 barrels each An increase over the previous year is recorded for pretty nearly every place the aggregate increase for the last eight months of 1881 over the last eight months of 1880 being 750000 barrels If the increase in the consumption of malt beverages were to be counterbalanced counterbal-anced by a corresponding decrease in whisky drinking the showing would be better and more encouraging encour-aging but as the consumption of the spirituous liquors increases though not quits so rapidly as malt the outlook for the temperance cause cannot be said to be particularly particu-larly bright I |
