Show Dried Fruit I The crop of fruit this year is not large hereabout as a consequence of the j visitation of caterpillers but in the southern portion of the Territory it has been equal in size to any previous year The plums and peaches are late and are being slowly dried The receipts this far bv Mr S P Teasdel who is a recognized leader in the handling of dried fruits have not been so heavy ain a-in former years Other seasons the yield has been all in by the 1st of October Octo-ber but the backwardness of the fruit this summer will throw the returns later Southern Utah ends up a bier proportion of the dried fruit and will make some heavy shipments yet The exportin of these commodities has become be-come quite a business of late years though with the present tariff on the railroads it is not a fortunemaking one by anv means With the Chicago quotations of apples at 45 to 5fc per pound the producer must receive bitt a trifle TThen the freight necessary to carry them to that market is deducted Numerous shipments have of late bee made to points in the west but until reasosable freight rates are given In i the railroads there will never be an ex ten > tvc trade in that line established |
