Show How Parnell Was Arrested New York 13Cable special from Dublin Parnell was arrested to day Morrisons Hotel previous to starting for Kildare convention Inspector Mallon called this morning morn-ing and sent up word to Parnell who was still in bed that he would be glad to see him The hotel porter por-ter returned word that he would be happy to see the inspector as soon as he was dressed He soon after sent for Mallon who with Detective Sheridan went up < the stairs Par nell met him pleasantly and asked Do you intend to arrest me Yes replied Mallon handing him a warrant still wet with Forsters signature for he had just returnedfrom London by the morning morn-ing mail at 8 oclock Parnell then glanced over the warrant and said All right He put on a hat and walked down stairs with the two policeman A cab was waiting and the three entered Kilmainham Prison cried Mallon to the driver and they drove off There were four other policemen in citizens clothes in another carriage On arriving ar-riving at Kilmainham Parnell was I at once assigned to a cell There was no demonstration as no one knew of the arrest except the parties par-ties concerned Dublin Morrisons Hotel has been carefully watched from the time Parnell entered last evening The officer who made the arrest first saw Parnell in his bedroom He allowed al-lowed him to finish dressing and pack his clothing Parnell was calm He was warmly welcomed by suspects in Kilmainham jail When it first became known there was great excitement the newspaper news-paper offices being besieged The inhabitants of Lismoore closed their shops on the news of Parnells arrest Guards atKilmain ham jail are doubled Carlow Kil daire Longford Louth Wexford and Wicklow counties and certain boroughs in Meath are proclaimed under the coercion act John Dillon Arthur OConnor and A M Sullvan members of Parliament were present Dillon spoke in fiery terms He said this was the most trying and critical moment that had occurred in their history during the past century He said the statement that Parnell had intimidated the people was false He Dillon defied anybody to point to a single speech made by Parnell in favor of intimidation His arrest was due to private malice It was the duty of the nation to deal the matter cooly and with judgment and to maintain the struggle with the lawThe The Cork branch of the Land League has passed resolutions denouncing government London 13A monster Land League meeting will be held in Hyde Park on the 23d On reception at Dublin of the intelligence of Parnells arrest all the shops were shut and black flags were displayed from many windows |
